After Jon Francis tragically lost his life in 2004, his father, David, co-founded the Jon Francis Foundation as a way both of commemorating his son and continuing his son’s mission of outdoor involvement and advocacy. “[The foundation] is dedicated to saving lives through wilderness safety education, empowering families who have suffered the loss of an adult loved one in the wilderness, and advocating for legal protection for missing adults,” he says. Art Along the Willow 2017

Art Along the Willow is an annual art fair sponsored by a local group aptly named Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic state parks. The event hosts up to 800 people. The natural setting creates a backdrop for all of the activities and things to see for this fair. More than 40 vendors will be selling handmade wares; guests can also enjoy live entertainment, a silent auction and activities for children that include storytelling and train rides. A Summer Day

“It takes a village” is a phrase that comes to mind with the efforts of many members of the community coming together to put on a great day for kids. The third annual A Summer Day will be happening July 22, an event put on by Friends of a Summer Day (FSD) in cooperation with Solid Ground. Blues and Brews Festival

The annual Park Art Fair in New Richmond, Wis., is celebrating its 50th anniversary, coinciding with the 10th birthday of the Blues and Brews Festival. “It’s about celebrating the unique beginning up in Star Prairie,” chamber director Rob Kreibich says.

Expanded offerings include more family-friendly events like hot-air balloon rides and painting activities. Both days feature more food offerings, with Friday night ending in a blues festival. Read more about Blues and Brews Festival

Join us on Friday, May 26 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the Stillwater Public Library for Teen Escape Room! at Stillwater.  Puzzles, mystery, a darkened library, a time limit, and the ominous feeling that someone just might be looking over your shoulder? Yes, please!  You'll work in two teams to solve puzzles and then put your answers together to escape in under 60 minutes!

The Former Editor Talks About Her Experience as a Writer

Writer and Stillwater graduate Kerstin March considers the St. Croix Valley her hometown. With a long list of accomplishments that include editor of this magazine and publishing two books internationally, this mother of three is now in the process of writing her third.

“The area had a tremendous impact on my love for the arts, English and literature. A lot of that started when I was really young. I had some wonderful teachers from the high school that encouraged me to write, which led me to St. Olaf College,” March says.
