When he got to the military, Stillwater native Adam Dince was a self-described hot mess. “Those movies where the overweight guy gets to boot camp, and they pick on him? That was me,” he says. He got his high school diploma because the military wasn’t accepting GEDs. But since then, Dince has earned a master’s in integrated marketing communication, and his first book came out last November.

He trained at Yale and sang opera in New York, but now you can find baritone Steven Marking, who lives in Maplewood, on the Mississippi backwaters in a mallard-green pontoon boat, armed with a camera, crouched behind a blind.

Marking draws from 20,000 images and a couple hundred hours of footage when choosing the visuals of river life—water fowl, bald eagles—to run on the screen when he appears onstage to sing about the Mississippi aboard American Cruise Line riverboats May through October. And sure, grouping the information and circulation desks might sound straightforward enough, but it’s the result of a facilities study conducted by MSR Design, a committee of library board members, staff, representatives from Friends of the Stillwater Public Library, and the Stillwater Library Foundation. Compass Center for Healing in Stillwater Offers Alternative Treatments for PTSD

Aimee Van Ostrand’s impetus for opening her Stillwater acupuncture location was her relationship with the nonprofit Compass Center for Healing in Stillwater, which works with local veterans, offering donation-only services to active and retired military personnel. Compass Center offers a wide variety of alternative, traditional and holistic services provided by independent healing practitioners, and thanks to her, veterans have access to community acupuncture. Friends of the Stillwater Public Library Book Drive

Are you doing some spring cleaning and need to clear off a shelf of books? Donate your gently used books to the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library.  The Friends will collect books, dvds, and cds on Saturday, April 1 and Saturday, April 8 from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm in the library parking ramp on Third Street. 

None of the following items will be accepted: encyclopedias, magazines, Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, textbooks, religious materials, National Geographic, videos, cassettes, partially used puzzle books. Read more about Friends of the Stillwater Public Library Book Drive
