Something Old is New

An old table isn’t just an old table at Salvaged with Style—it can be anything, because the possibilities are endless. Salvaging old items and transforming them into renewed, beautiful objects and furniture has become a trend in the past few years and is something that Margaret Ryan, owner of Salvaged with Style in Hudson, is doing every day. Girl Group

About 7 million individuals in the United States are affected by scoliosis, according to the National Scoliosis Foundation, and the majority are female. Despite this, many young girls find it hard to meet others who know what they’re going through.

This is why 14-year-old Sheridan Follis and her mother, Kelly, decided to start the first Minnesota chapter of Curvy Girls, a nonprofit group that provides a network for connecting and sharing scoliosis experiences. “Finding all of these girls and coming together, it was amazing to see that I actually wasn’t alone,” Sheridan says. Stillwater Sings

With 43 seasons in the books, Valley Chamber Chorale has been a fixture in the community for quite some time. Building Inspiration Through a Special Community

It can be easy for suburban areas to look and feel like the same place. But with 145 acres of restored native prairie surrounding it, Inspiration doesn’t run that risk. The Amazing Fabric Art of Robbin Firth and HeartFelt Silks

Four years after she began sharing her art with Seasons on St. Croix Gallery in Hudson, Robbin Firth is getting the opportunity to share her methods more widely, thanks to her recently patented palm washboard tool. The invention was conceptualized by Firth and her husband, Harry, a woodworker in his free time who handcrafts each palm washboard.

“It’s a lot of work to knit and then felt it down, so that’s why I wanted a faster process,” Firth explains of her felting art. “So I asked my husband to create a tool. I started teaching at the house using the tool, and it took off.” Read more about The Amazing Fabric Art of Robbin Firth and HeartFelt Silks

Local Chefs Provide Sustainable Menus for Community Homestead

Community Homestead is an Osceola, Wis.-based living and working community for people with disabilities that’s centered on an organic and sustainable farm. “They live in different houses on the farm, and they just work on the farm. They produce beautiful food,” chef Nathan Sartain says of the community’s residents. “They approached us about coming and doing a fundraiser using their products. We came out and did a shindig [in June]. They harvested a hog for us and grew vegetables, and we created a menu from these for the event.” Read more about Local Chefs Provide Sustainable Menus for Community Homestead
