HERbeat: Taiko Women ALL-STARS

TaikoArts Midwest proposes a simple, ground-breaking idea: bring the best North American and Japanese female taiko artists together for a two-week artist residency to collaborate and create a one-of-a-kind performance. Envisioned as a catalyst to fuel movement towards gender equity in taiko, this project celebrates and puts women center stage in a collaborative, unique performance. Conceived and choreographed by Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy, Written in Water explores the universal paradigm of a seeker on a journey to connect the human with the transcendent and reveal mysteries within the self. In this large-scale, multimedia dance work, dancers and musicians move freely between composition and improvisation, and activate the space by negotiating snakes and ladders—representing the heights of ecstasy and depths of longing. Howard Jones Acoustic Trio

Howard Jones Acoustic Trio is an intimate, stripped-down trip through Howard’s 30-year music career. Featuring Howard on piano, Robin Boult (Roger Daltry, Dave Stewart, Fish) on acoustic guitar, and Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo, Belinda Carlisle, John Paul Jones) on chapman stick, this performance delivers a fresh take on Howard’s best-known hits. This show also provides the opportunity for the audience to hear first-hand about the inspiration behind Howard’s beloved material, as well as stories from his touring career. Join us at Stillwater Public Library on Saturday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. for Over & Under the Snow Illustrations - Art for Kids. What do animals do in the winter? We will read a book that helps us see what is happening in the northland both OVER and UNDER the snow. We will illustrate our own winter landscapes, color them in, and then paint over them with a watercolor wash to make the colors POP! For kids in grades K-5. Join us at Stillwater Public Library on Saturday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. for Snake, Rattle and Roll with Snake Discovery. Slither into the world of reptiles by meeting several species that call Minnesota home! From diet to habitat and behavior, with plenty of fun facts in-between, attendees will learn what makes our cold-blooded friends so unique in this engaging program. Preparing for College: Financial Aid

Join us at Stillwater Public Library on Thursday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. for Preparing for College: Financial Aid. Where can I find scholarships? What exactly is the FAFSA? What will the financial aid office assist me with while I’m at college? This program will answer these questions and more as it explores the different financial aid options available to college students. A representative from the financial aid office at Century College will be on-site to answer questions.
