The Face that Launched a Thousand Likes

Traditionally when most people think of female models, they conjure up the image of a tall, beautiful woman who has flawless, symmetric features. Today, that ideal is slowly evolving to better reflect the wide range of beauty that exists within our society.

Izzy Bradley of Stillwater is one such model. At age 2, Izzy also has an exceptional quality that most models don’t have—she was born with Down syndrome. Read more about The Face that Launched a Thousand Likes

Fostering Hope

There is a family home on North Everett Street that looks like the others in its wooded Stillwater neighborhood. Inside, it is quite unique. Although those in the home aren’t related, the residents, staff and volunteers at Hope House of St. Croix Valley do constitute a family, of sorts.

Since 1993, the adult foster home has provided accommodations and compassionate care to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Read more about Fostering Hope

Volunteers in the Valley

For the past six years, residents of the St. Croix Valley have rolled up their sleeves to help make Community Thread’s annual event, Spring into Service, a success. Community Thread is a Stillwater-based nonprofit organization that specializes in volunteerism and senior issues, and supports the idea that each act of service is a thread that ties people, communities and lives together. Annually, the group provides services and volunteer opportunities to nearly 20,000 individuals. Read more about Volunteers in the Valley

Enjoy Art Outdoors

It’s spring, which means artists and art lovers soon will be gathering in Stillwater’s Lowell Park for the annual Rivertown Art Festival on May 30–31. “Lowell Park, right on the edge of the water, is a marvelous place to come out on a spring day,” says Todd Streeter, executive director at the Greater Stillwater Chamber. With sweeping views of the river and downtown Stillwater, few places in town are more picturesque. It’s no wonder so many in the St. Croix Valley enjoy attending one of the area’s most popular events. Read more about Enjoy Art Outdoors

We Remember

Living a modern life in a historic town like Stillwater, Minn., one tends to forget that the familiar streets are the same ones people walked on during past war times. This is not the 19th-century Stillwater of Civil War times. It isn’t the Stillwater of 1916, when families worried about their sons in the Great War. It is a time when those serving in the United States military continue to protect us at home and abroad.

On Memorial Day, May 25 this year, we will honor and remember those service men and women who died while serving our country. Read more about We Remember

A Toast to All: Stillwater’s Brewers Bazaar Tastes Good and Does Good

Doing something good for the community is rarely as intoxicating—or delicious—as the Brewers Bazaar. Though the event may seem like a day of carefree enjoyment, its objective is community service. When the Sunrise Rotary Club in Stillwater created the Brewers Bazaar nine years ago, members were interested in funding scholarships, care for the elderly and other local projects. Inspiration struck when a club member attended a wine tasting that included a local brewer, which was a novel idea at the time.
