Born in North Carolina and raised in Stillwater, Kami Mendlik’s entire life has evolved around art. “I’ve studied a lot and I’ve always painted,” she says, and the St. Croix Valley has been fundamental to Mendlik’s inspiration as an artist.

 

After a long winter, spring finally has arrived. Just like that, the days are longer, bright green buds are appearing on the trees, and the fresh air is invigorating. Along with the change in season comes a change in appetites.

 

Stillwater Area High School actors took to the school’s auditorium stage during their rousing performance of Grease on February 26-28.

 

It’s no secret that the St. Croix valley is brimming with artistic talent. This month, artists and the public will come together during two regional events: the artOPENer and the Pottery Tour.

 

Zachary Quinn exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age while growing up in Afton. That spirit was put to great use years later, in 2012, when he met Brian Keller in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas.

Traditionally when most people think of female models, they conjure up the image of a tall, beautiful woman who has flawless, symmetric features. Today, that ideal is slowly evolving to better reflect the wide range of beauty that exists within our society.

 

There is a family home on North Everett Street that looks like the others in its wooded Stillwater neighborhood. Inside, it is quite unique. Although those in the home aren’t related, the residents, staff and volunteers at Hope House of St. Croix Valley do constitute a family, of sorts.

 

For the past six years, residents of the St. Croix Valley have rolled up their sleeves to help make Community Thread’s annual event, Spring into Service, a success.

It’s spring, which means artists and art lovers soon will be gathering in Stillwater’s Lowell Park for the annual Rivertown Art Festival on May 30–31.

 

Living a modern life in a historic town like Stillwater, Minn., one tends to forget that the familiar streets are the same ones people walked on during past war times. This is not the 19th-century Stillwater of Civil War times.

 

Doing something good for the community is rarely as intoxicating—or delicious—as the Brewers Bazaar. Though the event may seem like a day of carefree enjoyment, its objective is community service.
