For the past nine years, Lakeview Health Foundation has led a fundraiser to give back to its community and clients. The Lakeview Health Foundation Gala is a night of fine dining and entertainment, but it also serves to raise awareness of important topics. October: The time of year when pumpkin-spiced offerings return to (arguably) too many menus. Autumn inspires us more with its natural sights, smells and tastes, one of which involves spending a lovely October day picking apples and drinking cider at a local orchard.

If you grew up in Japan, you might have eaten daily from what today is trending stateside: the bento. One specifically named bento is kyaraben, which is a shortened form of “character bento,” elaborately arranged lunches featuring food decorated to look like people, animals or plants—likely what has pushed bento into a wider consciousness.

It’s been a long road for Vincent Negret, owner of the newly opened Negret Wine Co. in downtown Hudson. His family’s history of winemaking extends back three generations to Vincent Negret’s grandfather, Miguel, who founded a winery in 1937 in Bogotà, Colombia, specializing in vermouth and port wines. When Miguel retired in 1952, his sons, including Vincent’s father, Vicente, continued the family tradition with great success, launching the first sparkling wine made in Colombia.
