While this likely doesn’t come as a shock to Stillwater residents and visitors, the city was named one of the “most picturesque small towns” in the United States by USA Today Travel.
During Stillwater’s Harvest Fest event, held in Lowell Park on October 10 and 11, pumpkins weighing over 1,500 pounds took center stage. Additionally, attendees enjoyed pumpkin baking and decorating, a chili cook-off, micro brew beer and wine tasting, a Giant Pumpkin Boat Race on the St.
On November 7, Enchanté and Capture Salon hosted “Illuminate Fashion Show,” a standing-room only event at the salon on S. Main St., Stillwater, that showcased seasonal fashion trends worn by St. Croix Valley area women.
When it comes to midwest winters, kids and hockey seem to go hand in hand. With that in mind, the inaugural Sticks in Stillwater event on February 5-7 is set to be a festive celebration of all things hockey and will feature a weekend-long outdoor mite hockey tournament.

Every year since 1990, thousands have gathered in Hudson to participate in the annual Hot Air Affair, the premier winter ballooning event and festival in the Midwest. This year’s event, “Paint the Sky,” will include approximately 35 hot air balloons.
In October, visitors attended the Scandia Cemetery Tour at Elim Cemetery to hear stories about some of the town’s past residents, as told by reenanctment volunteers. Some of the volunteers told the stories of their ancestors.
For those looking to enjoy the outdoors, Willow River State Park in Hudson is the place to be this winter. With more than five miles of multiuse trails for hiking and snowshoeing, and 14 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails, the park has something for everyone.
