While this likely doesn’t come as a shock to Stillwater residents and visitors, the city was named one of the “most picturesque small towns” in the United States by USA Today Travel. The ranking from October was based on research and crowdsourcing, and Stillwater took the top spot for Minnesota’s selection for its scenic riverfront views, bustling historic downtown and year-round seasonal events.
According to Christie Rosckes, marketing director at the city’s convention and visitor bureau, the recognition is exciting and well-deserved. “Many of the symbols of the town—brick church steeples, main street shops, steamboat river cruises, trolley rides, used book stores, diners and outdoor festivals all evoke a sense of Americana not frequently found in one picturesque location.”
