When it comes to family vacations, the paths not typically taken can lead to the most interesting and fulfilling excursions.

Once known primarily for the Ironman World Championships, triathlon races are now held throughout the country, attracting veteran and new triathletes alike—and kids can join in on the fun, too.

For the past 32 years, Minnesota has hosted one of the top Christian music festivals in the nation. The Sonshine Festival launched in 1982 on the campus of Willmar Community College to rave reviews, and as the years went on, attendance skyrocketed.

Since 1871, the Washington County Fair has been a highlight of summer in the St. Croix Valley. Although its focus has shifted from agriculture as Washington County’s demographics have changed, the fair still draws more than 50,000 people each year.

Every year, Minnesota produces an extraordinary quantity of high-quality art. Paul Creager, organizer of the Square Lake Film and Music Festival, believes it deserves to be seen.

Afton residents have been marking the start of summer with their popular Strawberry Festival since 1884. The festival originated as a way to honor the rich heritage of strawberry crops that have been growing in the area since the 1800s.

A great time was had by those who attended Stillwater’s Historic Winter Ice Cream Social in Lowell Park on January 17, hosted by the Washington County Historical Society and Discover Minnesota.

It was a perfect January day for members of the St. Croix Valley Ski Club.
