At Hudson High School, Coaching Women’s Soccer is a Knutson Family Affair

Learning how to kick a ball through the grass is a popular childhood pastime. For many youth in our community, the backyard ball game grows into an interest to play soccer. As those children grow up, some young athletes go from community youth leagues to playing on middle school and high school teams—and even college and beyond.

That’s how it all began for the Knutson family in Hudson. A childhood activity developed into a love for soccer, and today, John Knutson and his three daughters are working as a team to coach the Hudson High School women’s varsity soccer team. A Tribute to Taysha

Last February, Afton-Lakeland Elementary School fifth-grader Taysha Hein was faced with a heartbreaking diagnosis: acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Due to various medical appointments and chemotherapy, Taysha missed more than a month of school during the 2014-15 school year, and her classmates from 4/5 Express—the school’s combined fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms —wanted to express how much they missed her. But for a small community of adventurers, a casual stroll can mean a real treasure hunt. Somerset Hosts the 2015 Iron Cowgirl Competition

The St. Croix Valley is home to some pretty impressive women—but one weekend in Somerset, Wis., determines who bears the title of Iron Cowgirl. The competition is fierce, and the events are difficult—this year’s rodeo schedule includes bareback barrels, pole bending, goat tying and scudda ho. The events are tailored to mirror real life and test “strength, athleticism, courage, and skills as a horsewoman,” according to the Iron Cowgirl’s organizers. Little Learners: Ark of Angels Preschool Celebrates its 10th Year

This Fall, the St. Croix Valley’s only faith-based Montessori preschool will mark a decade of helping kids value their individuality. Lead teacher Karen Anderson says the preschool “hopes to set a foundation for learning in every student.”

Anderson explains the significance of the photo above, saying “All of the children leave a handprint on the wall outside the school symbolizing their legacy at Ark of Angels.”
