September 27 Celebrate sisterhood at Women Run the Cities, one of ESPN’s top five races for women in the nation. Organizers say that this popular event—featuring 10-mile and 10K runs, a 5K run/walk and a girls’ 1-mile run—is great for experienced runners and newbies alike. The courses start and finish at gorgeous Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, and track along the Mississippi River. Register online; spots fill up quickly. Girls’ run open to ages 4–12. Jane Grant-Abban never dreamed she’d be an artist. Growing up in England before moving to Wales, she always showed a distinct interest in the arts, but her career took her elsewhere: After graduating with degrees in business and education, she became an elementary teacher. July is a time to bask in the sun and enjoy a great cocktail outdoors. We thought it would be fun to send local blogger Stephany Wieland out on the town to check out some of the cool drinks St. Croix Valley bartenders are stirring up this season.
Wieland was among five finalists in a 2014 international cocktail competition hosted by British TV chef Jamie Oliver. Not a mixologist by trade, the mother of two is a 911 dispatcher, wedding photographer and recurring guest on Twin Cities Live on KSTP-TV.
