Once known primarily for the Ironman World Championships, triathlon races are now held throughout the country, attracting veteran and new triathletes alike—and kids can join in on the fun, too.

Beginning with our August 2015 issue and continuing annually, St. Croix Valley Magazine will celebrate a select group of accomplished high school students who are entering their senior year.

Last February, Afton-Lakeland Elementary School fifth-grader Taysha Hein was faced with a heartbreaking diagnosis: acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

 

Nobody ever needs an excuse to get outside—gorgeous views valley-wide, fresh air and beautiful sights are reason enough. But for a small community of adventurers, a casual stroll can mean a real treasure hunt.

This Fall, the St. Croix Valley’s only faith-based Montessori preschool will mark a decade of helping kids value their individuality. Lead teacher Karen Anderson says the preschool “hopes to set a foundation for learning in every student.”

 

Launched in 1954 as a fundraiser for North Hudson Elementary School, the annual Pepper Festival has turned into a wildly successful event, complete with its own park.
