Remember the Remembrance Walk

An emotional event draws hundreds to downtown Stillwater this month.

Now in its second year, the Remembrance Walk is a beautiful way for people to come together and remember they’re not alone when going through a tough pregnancy, miscarriage or infant loss. The event, which drew 900 people last year,  is organized by Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a company that provides free remembrance photography for grieving families. “They deserve to be remembered,” affiliate photographer Jessica Person says of the babies who lose their lives too young.

Along with the 1-mile walk, organizers read the names of the children who have been lost, and each one is depicted on a remembrance poster lining the paved path by the river. Painful as it might be, “We invite [families] to acknowledge their baby,” Person says. “Reading each baby’s name aloud is such an important part of this event.”
