You don’t need to travel to northern California or Tuscany for a food tour. Founded by Nancy McNulty and her daughter Liz Lettner five years ago, Foodies on Foot takes locals and tourists alike through the best culinary Stillwater has to offer.
Inspired by food tours the two took while on vacation, “I kind of thought Stillwater has everything that’s needed to do a food tour,” McNulty says. “We’ve got the history, we’ve got amazing restaurants, and it’s just a cute little river town.”
The tour is called “Savor the Flavors of Stillwater.” Each three-and-a-half-hour adventure begins with history and introductions among tour-goers. Then, at a nice leisurely pace, you’ll receive a sample of food, drink and behind-the-scenes looks at four sit-down restaurants that change with the theme.
This is a very Minnesota tour, but what’s on your plates isn’t just average Midwestern fare. Taste everything from QuickFire Pizza to sushi from Osaka and rustic classics at Revé. Popular dessert spots include the Green Room or Sarah’s Tipsy Pies.
“Sometimes the restaurant owner will come and give a little history of their restaurant, or we’ll do that for them if they’re busy or shy,” McNulty says. Visitors leave with an extra dose of knowledge from trivia stops along the way and conclude the experience with some time to shop at two culinary specialty stores.
“I love Stillwater, and it’s so much fun to show off our beautiful little town,” McNulty says. “Everybody looks at me and says, ‘Wow, you’ve got the best job in the world,’ because I eat and have a glass of wine and meet all of these wonderful people.”
