Oil Painter Mary Jo Van Dell of Stillwater Finds Inspiration in the Outdoors

As a kid, Mary Jo Van Dell enjoyed drawing. The Stillwater resident had dreams of becoming a Hollywood makeup artist. “But always in the back of my mind, I wanted to paint,” she says. She took her first and only lesson at age 21 (she had been painting before that) and has been painting professionally ever since.

San Pedro Cafe Brings Warmth to St. Croix River Valley

Some might ask: What do a Caribbean island and Hudson have in common? Thanks to restaurateur Pete Foster, the two unite at the San Pedro Cafe, a spot favored by locals for its unusual flavor combinations and a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

The cafe has been around since 2000; since that time, it has experimented with a particular blend of dishes from warmer climes, from Cuba to Central America.
