Lumberjack Days marked one of the most exciting summer celebrations in Stillwater, but throughout an 80-year history, its focus slowly shifted somewhat as the event attracted more tourists. Last year, a partnership of Stillwater-area businesses renamed the event “Log Jam” and set out to return it to its roots.
“A lot of people that used to leave town during that weekend actually stayed in town, brought friends and family, and had a great time,” says Brad Glynn, one of five business owners who serve as the Log Jam board. Collectively, the board calls itself The Locals—a nod to its mission of “providing an engaging and educational event that welcomes families and community members to the birthplace of Minnesota to enjoy and learn about the cultural heritage, historical charm and local talent of our beloved river town.”
The celebration itself certainly highlights local charm. Although last year’s Log Jam was limited due to excessive flooding, feedback from event-goers was overwhelmingly positive. This year promises to be even better, with a larger beer garden, more bungee trampolines and the possibility of a Ferris wheel on the north point of Lowell Park.
