Fall Harvest Fun at Local Orchards

Apple orchard season is just around the corner. After Labor Day weekend, most orchards open to the public with harvest activities that are fun for everyone. Here’s the lowdown on a few local orchards to check out.

Whistling Well Farm

This Hastings farm has music by the Back Porch Band as well as plenty of orchard goodies for purchase like honey, jams, maple syrup and apple pie. You’ll also find pumpkins, and, of course, apples. This year they’ll be debuting the new First Kiss apple from the University of Minnesota. So load up and let us know how you like these delicious first fruits of fall.

Other fun activities at Whistling Well include visits with goats, chickens and the resident donkey. Flower lovers will enjoy the selection of fall mums for your front porch.

Fischer Croix Farm Orchard

After Labor Day, swing by Fischer’s Croix Farm Orchard for 20 different apples. On the weekends, take a wagon ride to a pumpkin patch. Fischer’s also puts up a corn maze for guests to wander through and a food wagon for hungry customers.

Other events include an orchard crawl held the last week of September into the first week of October and the fall festival held the first and second week of October.
