Square Lake Festival

Celebrate the artists and musicians of Minnesota in the beautiful St. Croix Valley.

Started in the summer of 2003 to bring awareness and exposure to local independent film, the Square Lake Film Festival advertises on its website, “the event is a way to bring some exposure to the awesome independent and largely unrecognized film work being done in and around the Twin Cities.”

The event also sells discounted tickets for people who arrive by bike. Since 2009 more than half the attendees decide to take this 80-mile roundtrip route to the Square Lake Film Festival from the Twin Cities. Bikers from Minneapolis gather at the HUB COOP and travel with the Peace Coffee sag wagon that helps to carry the bikers’ gear.

Eventually organizers began to showcase local musicians to celebrate everything Minnesota. Experience anything from rock to folk to indie, including bands like the recently reunited Roma Di Luna, Zuluzuluu, Gramma’s Boyfriend, the Black-Eyed Snakes and more up-and-coming artists.

The films will be announced a couple of weeks before the event itself, highlighting a diverse, entertaining and impactful lineup.

For those wanting to bike, advance registration is highly recommended. Festival footage and detailed lists of the events are available on the website.
