The Hudson-based St. Croix Rowing Club is a nonprofit sculling group providing adults with competitive or recreational rowing opportunities. Efforts to start the club began in 1999, thought up by rowing enthusiasts Hal and Kathy Barnes, Tom Palmer and Maynard Schultz. The first lessons were offered in 2001. The group now competes in a variety of events each year, including many local and less-than-local regattas. They also offer the chance for young adults soon to be 18 to receive private or semiprivate lessons introducing them to the sport and inspiring them to become potential adult members. Summer opportunities fill up fast, so if you’re interested, consider contacting the group today.

Believe it or not, now is the time to sign up for this year’s rowing lessons—yes, just before the ice is out.
