The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in partnership with Arts Midwest launches the NEA Big Read program designed to “broaden our understanding of our world, our communities and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book,” according to the ArtReach St. Croix website.
ArtReach St. Croix is one of 75 organizations nationwide to receive a grant to host an NEA Big Read project. The entire community is encouraged to read Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. You’ll find copies of Station Eleven in local libraries throughout the St. Croix Valley. You might also find a few copies distributed around town by ArtReach in Little Free Libraries and coffee shops. If you prefer to purchase you own copy of Station Eleven, check out independently owned bookstores Valley Bookseller in Stillwater and Chapter 2 Books in Hudson. They are offering a 15 percent discount on this particular title.
Part of the ArtReach Big Read initiative will include a month of literary, visual and performing arts opportunities centered on themes found in the book. So let’s get reading and connect with friends about what they think of the book and the Big Read intiative.
