Meet Hattie. She’s a hunting dog getting a little retrieval practice at Big Marine Lake. This Lens on St. Croix Valley award-winning photograph of Hattie was shot by Glenn Hansen. Hansen happened to be out with his brother-in-law (Hattie’s human) on a hot summer day last year when this terrific photo opportunity presented itself.
A Minnesota native, Hansen recently moved to the St. Croix Valley after spending 15 years in California. He and his wife wanted to connect with family and be close enough to help Hansen’s parents who live in Hudson, Wis. He’d been exploring the area while getting settled, so his brother-in-law invited him along to see the spot where he frequently trains his hunting dogs with a retrieval training toy like the one pictured in the photograph.
Hansen typically has his Canon 6D camera. As a business advertising and content marketing professional, Hansen uses photography to support his work. Although not a professional photographer, Hansen has enough experience to consider himself better than average. And when he saw our Lens on St. Croix Valley photo contest publicized on Instagram, he decided to submit this photo for consideration. Welcome to the St. Croix Valley, Hansen! We love your photo of Hattie and hope you’ll submit more photos to St. Croix Valley Magazine in the future.
