The Valley Goes to Camp

Make sure to register for these fun summer camps by February—while there’s still time.

While the snow might still be falling and summer is still a few months away, registration for summer camps is right around the corner. In an effort to get ahead of the game, we found some fun camps that you and your child can fantasize about for the rest of the season.

Parent and Child Weekends

Choose between 10 summer sessions and join your child for a fun weekend at Camp Kiwanis. Taking place between June 8 and August 19, the camp will focus on bringing children and parents together through a wide range of activities, including swimming, canoeing, fishing, crafting, hiking, first-aid training and more. This is a camp made for bonding—don’t miss out.

Shooting Sports Programs
    
For the many hunting families in the Valley, your child can learn the basics of firearm safety or archery through Fort Horn Camps one and two. The firearms camp (camp one) is in association with the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, and instructs on deer biology and the basics of deer hunting. Kids also participate in classic camp activities like swimming, hiking and fishing. There are three firearms sessions to choose from, one each month. Collaborating with Minnesota Advanced Bowhunter Education, archery (camp two) attendees learn proper bowhunting procedures, trailing, outdoor cooking, wildlife observation and more. Only available in August.

Down on the Farm

Children learn about farm life and work, complete with farm animals like donkeys, alpacas and chickens. Kids have the opportunity to do farm chores and help with the camp garden. As a reward for completing the week, they’ll cook a big farm breakfast.

Nature Detective

Your child will have the opportunity to study the animal life of Minnesota and Wisconsin by exploring a bunch of fun nature trails, and learning how to track and look for animal prints. A Carpenter Nature Center naturalist also brings a group of animals to visit.

Girl Scout Camp

Taking place at Camp Lakamaga and Camp Elk River, your daughter will have the chance to participate in a bunch of traditional outdoor activities. At Camp Lakamaga, they can enjoy swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing, archery and more. At Camp Elk River, they’ll have the opportunity to improve their equestrian skills by riding and grooming, as well as archery, canoeing and more.
