Hudson High School senior Chase Blackmun has a lot he can hang his hat on, including—but not limited to—his involvement as a varsity athlete and captain for both hockey and soccer, membership in the National Honor Society, competitive math team membership and a top academic ranking in his class.
Blackmun has received numerous athletic recognitions, including all-conference titles for soccer and hockey, all-state for hockey since his sophomore year and playing on Team Wisconsin, a traveling hockey team. Some of his best memories from high school have been playing on these teams, such as making it to state for hockey and playing in the section final for soccer. “It’s great becoming close as a team and seeing all your hard work pay off,” he says.
Yet while he has a busy schedule juggling sports and AP classes, Blackmun also has found time to be a student mentor to his friend Will, who is autistic. Blackmun began tutoring Will and serving as a life skills assistant after seeing him struggle in a class they shared together. “It’s been a great experience, helping out a friend,” Blackmun says.
As the oldest sibling of five, Blackmun strives to be a role model for his younger sisters and brother, and feels humbled to have such a supportive group around him. He always has looked up to his father, Mike Hills, who constantly encourages him and shows him how helping people can create happiness. Blackmun hopes to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an engineering student.
