As spring returns to the valley, so do the many bird species that migrated south for the winter. For the third year, the St. Croix Flyway Bird Migration Celebration welcomes them home with a multi-day festival that brings together art, education and family-friendly fun.
Each year, decorated park benches—artworks in their own right—serve as great locales from which to view the migrating birds. “We live in such an amazing place here in the valley, with so many opportunities to participate in nature,” says Patty Mueller, president of Tropical Wings, the volunteer-run nonprofit that promotes stewardship of neotropical migratory birds. “This festival is about celebrating that.”
The festivities include a presentation by park rangers from Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica, one of the sister parks to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Guided nature walks, poetry readings, and a bird-banding demonstration will be hosted at venues around the St. Croix Valley.
