After a successful first year, the Afton Farmers’ Market will return to Afton Town Square Park this summer. The market offers the unique items of 12 to 20 vendors from 4 to 7 p.m. each Thursday, June through October; local farmers and artisans are featured.
Last year, vendors sold beef, chicken, lamb, Alaska salmon, cheese, produce, flowers, candles, pottery, fair-trade coffee and more at the weekly markets.
“We really had it all,” says Lacy Vreeland of the Afton Farmers’ Market committee. She expects the same this year and hopes the markets will continue to bring more business to the charming downtown.
In addition to supporting Afton-area businesses, the farmers’ market offers a unique chance to buy local—unique because the town doesn’t have a grocery store. “This is a convenient way for people to run down and pick up some things for dinner, and know they’re buying from and supporting the local community,” Vreeland says.
Vreeland says she hopes the market will grow in the next few years, as Afton undergoes some renovation and growth itself.
Vendor applications and volunteer sign-up forms are open and available at aftonfarmersmarket.com.
