When it comes to midwest winters, kids and hockey seem to go hand in hand. With that in mind, the inaugural Sticks in Stillwater event on February 5-7 is set to be a festive celebration of all things hockey and will feature a weekend-long outdoor mite hockey tournament.
The three-day event will be jam packed with outdoor fun, music, coaches and players clinics, a boot hockey game between members of public safety and the military, merchandise for sale and evening events including a screening of Miracle, complete with popcorn.
During the weekend, there will be “Skate with the Greats” meet-and-greets with NHL and Olympic hockey players including retired professional ice hockey players, coach Bill Butters, and Dave Hanson, who appeared in the film Slapshot.
The Herb Brooks Foundation is an event benefactor as part of its ongoing dedication to providing opportunities for kids to play the game of hockey. Discover Stillwater is one of the sponsors. There will be free shuttles between the St. Croix Rec Center, Stillwater Junior High School and downtown Stillwater. All ages. Free activities, $350 team fee.
