“Hometown for the Holidays” Events Bring Cheer to Downtown Stillwater throughout December

Main Street Stillwater transforms into a holiday hub all month long.
Downtown Stillwater shines brightly during the holiday season.

For residents of Stillwater and surrounding communities, there’s no place like home for the holidays. Throughout the month of December, Stillwater’s downtown area will be lit up with holiday decorations to create a sparkling backdrop for festive events and activities for people of all ages.

Hosted by the Main Street Stillwater Independent Business Alliance (IBA), and in conjunction with the city of Stillwater and the Oak Park Heights Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hometown for the Holidays has brought cheer to the downtown area for several years; IBA has been involved for the past five years.

Festivities this year include the Twinkle Parade and tree lighting ceremony, visits from Santa Claus, shopping and dining specials, and BierCycle caroling tours. The Warden’s House, Lowell Inn and Aurora Staples Inn will also open their doors for several holiday events. Costumed Victorian Christmas carolers will make their way down Main Street, and free wagonette rides will be available to take passengers on scenic rides along the St. Croix River.

Sherri Hopfe, Main Street IBA president and owner of the Dock Café, says Hometown for the Holidays is a fun time to be downtown. With so many unique shops and wonderful events, she says it’s a perfect opportunity for those looking for an old-fashioned, hometown experience.
