The St. Croix River just keeps getting more precious. It is big, beautiful and wild. It is home to all manner of waterfowl, songbirds, animals and fish. Less than an hour from a major metropolitan area, being on the river can make you feel as if you’re 1,000 miles from civilization.
Communities along the river recognize this gem in our own backyard. Hudson’s St. Croix RiverFest is a good example. This “party with a purpose” is going into its third year this month, with six days of activities featuring a family paddle, a youth fishing event, an ice cream social, nature hikes, a concert and spiritual celebration, and lots more.
“It started out as a community river cleanup in Hudson and grew out of that,” RiverFest volunteer Paul Bourget says. “A lot of volunteers and organizations have banded together to expand it into a multi-day event that focuses on promoting conservation, raising river awareness, and having a little fun while we’re at it.”
