The Warden’s House Museum is kicking off its summer season with an open house, a free affair that will give guests a sneak peek at this season’s exciting exhibits. The residence was built in 1853 to house the territorial prison’s warden and family. Thirteen families lived in the home before the prison’s closure in 1914, leaving behind rich stories.
This year’s exhibit promise to be particularly riveting because 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, and the museum will host a special exhibit highlighting the area’s contributions to the war effort. Also this year, the Warden’s House Museum is featuring the 1965 flood of the St. Croix and how it affected the surrounding area. In addition to interesting history, the event will also feature live music and free food.
