There is some controversy over how pickleball got its name, whether the sport reminded founder Joel Pritchard’s wife of a pickle boat crew or if Pritchard simply named the game after the family dog. But there is no disagreement about how much fun pickleball is to play with easy-to-learn rules and a quick pace. Pickleball is a mashup of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It’s low impact and is said to be one of the fastest growing sports in America. It’s also a great workout, requires minimal equipment and can be played indoors our outside. Try something new this summer. Learn to play pickleball!
Pickleball lessons are available through Stillwater Community Education and Hudson Community Education. Typically, local summer pickleball tournaments are also on offer for those ready for more competitive action on the court.
