Many are known to brave the cold and enjoy winter activities like hiking and skiing, but few can say they’ve done so at night—or by candlelight. The third annual Sweetheart Cross Country Night Ski and Candlelight Hike at Lake Elmo Park Reserve will offer a special outdoor experience for attendees of all ages.
“It’s a really unique experience, being on the trail at night, that the typical park user wouldn’t normally have the chance to participate in,” says Washington County Parks coordinator Laura Erickson.
In addition to the 5.5 miles of ski trails already illuminated by LED lights during the winter, the February 12 event will feature two miles of hiking trails lit by candles. Attendees can also enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and coffee, as well as a bonfire for roasting their own treats.
The free event will run 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Elmo Park Reserve on February 12. A vehicle permit pass is required to enter the park; $5 for a day pass, $25 for an annual park pass. Skiers will also need a valid Minnesota ski pass.
