For the fifth year in a row, Run Stillwater will host the Stillwater Half-marathon, presented by Twin Cities Orthopedics; this year’s event is May 26. Participants can run, jog or walk the course based on their skill-level, and on previous years many have indulged in the buffet at Water Street Inn afterwards.
Before the event, runners receive usual racing necessities, like a race bib and a pacer, but there are usually other goodies involved, too: The past few years racers have enjoyed one free beer at the Water Street Inn during the weekend, and a special price for brunch.
For those considering going, either to run or just show support, parking will be available in different lots and ramps throughout downtown Stillwater. Watching friends or family run? Run Stillwater coordinator Stacy Einck recommends either standing at the Pioneer Park finish line or along the cross streets through Gateway Trail to get the best view.
The race, which offers three different courses (5K, 10K and half-marathon), will be Run Stillwater’s first in a series of three for the 2018 season. Einck expresses her gratitude that the Stillwater races have grown every year when other race attendances throughout the country have been stagnant. She credits the volunteers for part of it, who come from as diverse organizations as local youth activity groups to breast cancer awareness groups.
