As we head into winter, summer sports can seem a distant memory. But the anticipation for the Royal Golf Club might just be what local golfers need to stay strong through the frozen months.
The newly designed daily-fee golf course and clubhouse, which have replaced well-known 3M retreat Tartan Park, come as the perfect partner to the Royal Club community. The 18-hole course is set to open in spring 2018. It was designed as a collaboration between golf legends Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam.
The club’s six-hole short course, complete with lighting and music, aims to make golfing accessible to a younger generation. In the future, the course will be overlooked by a pool and fitness center, allowing adults to keep an eye on the kids as they have some alone time.
“The real neat thing is we’re making that six-hole short course available to junior golfers free of charge forever,” director of golf Jim Leary says. “We want kids to be able to learn how to play the game and get them out there.”
The renovated clubhouse, in conjunction with the course, will have meeting space and an already completed restaurant appropriately titled Arnie’s. Leary says the club looks forward to hosting corporate and charitable outings as well as a full calendar of league play throughout the summer.
The included 291 home sites will be available for open houses sometime next year. The homes will include both single-family styles built by Custom One Homes, Cudd Homes, Hartman Homes and TJB Homes, as well as villa styles crafted by Gorham Companies and Pratt Homes.
