Join us at the Stillwater Public Library on Monday, March 25, 6:30 – 7:30 PM for a ‘Pop-Up’ Book Club. Staff is often asked if there is a book club offered at the library. Yes! A monthly book club for mystery book fans has been ongoing for many years. Newly developed and launching in March, staff will also periodically offer ad hoc book discussion groups centered on varying topics, which we call ‘Pop-Up Book Clubs.’ For our first endeavor, four celebrated books on migration, racism, and discrimination were selected from a recently compiled list. The four non-fiction books are:
- The Fire This Time: A New Generation Speaks About Race by Jesmyn Ward. 2016.
- The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and Crime That Changed Their Lives by Dashka Slater. 2017.
- White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo. 2018.
- The Far Away Brothers: Two Young Migrants and the Making of an American Life by Lauren Markham. 2017.
Read one or more and join staff members for a discussion. No one will be put on the spot to give a report or summary; we are planning to talk about what stretched us, and the impact these issues have on our community.
Program is free and no registration is necessary.
