In its 39th year, the Rivertown Art Festival returns to Lowell Park in Stillwater for two days of art, food and fun June 4 and 5. The community event features more than 100 local artists and vendors, making it the St. Croix Valley’s largest long-standing art fair.
In recent years, the festival has expanded to include live acoustic music from local acts, as well as food and marketplace vendors selling a wide array of products, from organic goat’s milk soap to handcrafted fishing lures and artisan honey. Whether it’s a fine artist or food vendor, “we still evaluate everything to the same high standards,” says Paul McCarthy, chairman of the festival’s planning committee. “Everything on display is original and created by an individual.”
All participating artists must undergo a rigorous vetting process to exhibit, McCarthy says; by the end of the weekend, judges selected by the committee will award cash prizes to four artists based on the originality and quality of their work. The festival showcases a broad range of media, including fiber, glass, painting, jewelry, wood, metal, photography and pottery.
All of the art on display is for sale, and many of the predominantly regional artists will be on hand to discuss their work with interested festivalgoers.
