Whether you've always dreamed of owning a vintage boat or you just want to enjoy an afternoon of good food and family fun on the banks of the St. Croix River, the Antique and Classic Boat Show at Bayport Marina offers something for everyone.
Started by two marina members active in the antique boat restoration community, the annual boat show, now in its seventh year, has become “a big thing for Bayport,” says Kori Derrick-Cisewski, office manager at Bayport Marina and one of the event’s organizers. “We want people from the community to stop in, see what the marina is like and get interested in the boats.”
On August 13, approximately 40 classic vessels from across Minnesota and Wisconsin will be on display at the marina. The boats are all pre-1970 models, some from as far back as the 1920s, with brands ranging from the highly desirable Chris Craft to Hacker Craft, the oldest builder of wooden motorboats in the world.
Boat owners will be on hand to answer questions about the maintenance, restoration and history of their ships, and attendees will have the chance to vote for People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards, with Best in Show awarded by the marina.
“Some of these boats are used on the river, but some of them you’ll never see anywhere but here,” Derrick-Cisewski says. “Last year, we even had a couple of custom-built boats that were made from scratch by their owners.”
